From the article: Paying to Play: Is It Worth the Money?
Although the number of people subscribed to games that charge monthly fees for access continues to grow, we've all heard protests from those that refuse to pay any kind of regular fees to play a video game. Many are accustomed to the traditional retail offerings: buy the box, take it home, and play it forever, or until you get bored of it. By comparison, the $10-$15 per month a lot of MMOGs charge may look rather steep, but are they really a rip-off, or are they good value for your entertainment dollars? Share Your Thoughts

- In a pay to play game I expect that since everybody pays, everyone would get any special items that come out, or everyone would get a fair chance in events. Aion was really awful and unfair with their gifts and events. They had special items which you'd have to pay extra money for, aswell as having events which took up many many hours (you were credited for how long you were online) which then you change the credits for and gamble for a free item. (Of course people without real life responsibility would have an unfair advantage to everyone else... and be able to have the chance to gamble much more often) The way free to play games make their money is offering special items for sale, which is totally acceptable. You can do -everything- including logging in for free. but when you pay to play, you pay to merely log in and chat, then you have to pay even more for special things, that's ridiculous. I definitely support paying for games, as long as all people receive gifts equally.

Worth it
- Subscription games seem to have more players than a lot of non-subscription games. I myself don't care to much for World of Warcraft. I play Lord of the rings online the siege of mirkwood and it is well worth the money.

well worth it
- We spend about the same each month on Warcraft as we would have on cable television, but it's heaps more fun and sociable. I wish it was a little cheaper, as with the kids playing games like Club Penguin, it starts to add up; but overall, I think it's good value for money.
