Do you plan to charge subscription fees, or will some other revenue model be used?
CB: Yes there will be monthly fees. We were initially thinking of going with a real world currency model based on items but decided against it.
From what I've heard, Thrones of Chaos will focus on PvP. Will it be an open PvP system or will PvP be restricted to predefined factions? Will Orcs be able to guild with Elves, and so on?
CB: There are no class templates or levels. It is also skill based. There are no restrictions based on guilds or who you can party with. Lately MMORPG's have been more focused on creating static worlds with restrictions and instancing rather than what they really should be which is dynamic game worlds that give the player freedom to do what they like.
Will there be some form of territorial control in the game?
CB: Thrones is focused heavily on guilds. We are creating a solid guild system for the game as this is one area that is very important for any type of PvP based game. Guilds will control territories to a certain degree. One example being the ability guilds can raise or lower taxes in a specific town or territory dynamically.
To what extent do you intend to use instanced content?
CB: There are no instances. We don't believe instances have any place in MMORPG game worlds. MMOGs should be about communities, freedom of choice and player interaction on a large scale whether it be in a good way or even bad. Trying to control games like these too much or place too many restrictions on them or their systems defeats the purpose of a MMORPG which is to give the world's inhabitants a dynamic world to live in with as much freedom as possible.
Is the possibility of permanent death of a player's character still planned as feature for the game?
CB: No. There will be no permanent death. This is more of a hindrance and isn't anything that adds real value or fun factor to a game.
Can you tell us roughly when you hope to release the game, and when we might expect a beta test?
CB: We do not have a date for any type of open beta yet. The current work load is estimated to take the next 6-7 months for our team.
A closed testing period will happen as soon as possible, our senior programmers have already commented, stating that testing needs to begin ASAP, possibly next month with pre-selected guilds as it is extremely important to begin testing projects as complex as MMOGs at every stage of their development to ensure that you do not discover major setbacks late into development. We do plan on having a large open testing period towards the end also to show off our work. =)
Is there anything else you'd like to tell our readers about Thrones of Chaos at this time?
CB: Just to keep an eye out on the official site. We will be releasing more information as the different areas we are currently working on near completion.
Thanks for your time Colton!
