MUD - multiuser dungeon

By Dave Spohn, About.com

Definition: Very similar in nature to MUSHs (multiuser shared hallucinations) and MUSEs (multiuser shared experiences), the multiuser dungeon has a rich tradition in gaming that started long before personal computers became available. MUDs are text-based, turn-based adventures in which large numbers of players can participate simultaneously. Today's MUDs are commonly played through Web browsers, but there are also Telnet and MUD clients designed specifically for this task.
Also Known As: MUSH - multiuser shared hallucination
