lag

By , About.com Guide

Definition: When the action in an online game slows down due to a poor Internet connection, it is referred to as lag. Lag can result from an inherently slow connection (such as dial-up), Internet traffic, distance between you and the server, server performance, or all of these things combined, making it the scourge of online gamers everywhere. When lag is at it's most severe, game action becomes so choppy that it is sometimes described as a "slide show."
Examples:
I'm getting really bad lag in this game tonight.
