FPS - first-person shooter

By Dave Spohn, About.com

Definition: An action game played from the first-person point of view. This means that you typically see what is around you, but you do not see yourself, except perhaps for the barrel of your gun. It is as though you are in the eyes of the character playing the game. These games are almost always 3D and ranged weapons are generally a central feature. Quake and Half-Life are popular examples of FPS games.
