DOT - damage over time

By Dave Spohn, About.com

Definition: DOT is an acronym for Damage Over Time and it is most often used to refer to certain spells, curses, and abilities in roleplaying games. Rather than doing a single large burst of damage to an enemy, DOTs do a smaller amount of damage at increments for a certain length of time.
Examples:
Don't DOT that raptor, I'm trying to polymorph it.
