Definition: A clan is a team or a group of players that practice a certain multiplayer game (most often a FPS) together in order to compete with other clans. Clans put their initials or "shorthandle" in their player name in brackets or something so it's easy to recognize them. When you see names like [TiC]Gonzo, for example, it's because Gonzo belongs to a clan. Some clans are quite casual, while others have corporate sponsors and compete in pro game leagues for large amounts of money. In RPGs such player organizations are usually referred to as "guilds."
