Road to Rome Box Shot

The Road to Rome

The Bottom Line

For online warriors, it's a good, but not essential, expansion. If you have played the original maps and the free Desert Combat mod to death, Road to Rome is a reasonable expenditure.

Guide Review - BF 1942: Road to Rome

With Battlefield 1942 dominating the market for war-themed multiplayer shooters, it's no surprize to see EA releasing timely expansion packs, the first of which is The Road to Rome. Expansions are usually a good idea, except that, in this case, the mod community surrounding BF is already doing an admirable job of expanding the game, and mods like Desert Combat are giving RTR some stiff competition. It does, however, make some nice additions to BF and the mountain terrain of the Italian maps is welcome. The new fighter-bombers drop a cluster of bombs, making them ridiculously lethal in the hands of a good pilot, and defenses against them seem inadequate, but that aside, there is definitely some solid new content in RTR for Battlefield fans.
