Second Modern Warfare 2 PC Petition

By , About.com Guide   November 17, 2009

Although Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been breaking all sorts of sales records on consoles, PC gamers are still, for the most part, bitter about missing features they've come to expect from the series, notably dedicated servers for multiplayer. The first petition over this, which began before the game's release, reached 215 thousand "signatures," but not surprisingly, there were a few duplicates in there. Now that the game is out, someone decided a second, more concise petition is in order, and they're asking that you only sign it once. They would like Infinity Ward to patch the following features into the PC version of the game:

  • Support for an in-game console
  • Support for the "/record" feature
  • Support for the lean feature
  • Support for auto-balancing
  • Support for multiple profiles
  • Support for better Graphics and FOV control
  • Support for actual ping readouts in ms (not graphs)
  • Support for a tournament game type (like Promod)
  • Support for mod tools and modded Dedicated Servers
  • Support for Punkbuster enabled Dedicated Servers
  • Support for Dedicated Server admins to choose player numbers (Max: 50)
  • Support for PC gamers to choose if they wish to connect to an IWNet P2P server or a Dedicated Server (hosted by clans/individuals, etc)

It's interesting to note that hackers have allegedly already found ways to access the console and change key game settings, although that sort of thing could result in a permanent ban from Steam.

The ones that are being asked as enumerated in the list sums up what PC gamers loved COD4 for, and MW2 should have been the best if these features were retained. Not to start a flame war, console gamers who are asking what the fuss is about must understand why PC gamers should be disappointed. These features have been innovations for the PC all over the years that have been embraced by PC gamers, but have been yanked out by IW to conform to console standards. And also to the benefit of console gamers, “modding” in PC speak is not cheating, it’s the art of creating additional content like custom maps to help lengthen the life of the product.
