An article over on Ars Technica discusses Microsoft's new strategy for Games for Windows Live, their game matching service for the PC that is akin to Xbox Live. Like Xbox Live, Games for Windows Live used to come with a fee of $50 per year, but MS has decided to drop the fee to bring the offering in line with free services like Steam, and they even plan to refund current subscribers. They're also working on a Games for Windows Live Marketplace, where people will be able to purchase PC games for download, get the latest demos and trailers, and so on. They've still got a lot of catching up to do, but these changes should make the service more competitive.
