Pyro Maniacs

Monday June 23, 2008
Alex Meer over at Rock, Paper, Shotgun spent some time on a Team Fortress 2 "achievement server," and had a pretty twisted experience "achieving nothing," as he put it. I haven't been playing much recently, and I wasn't aware of the degree to which people are, essentially, padding their stats and achievements for the Medic, and now the Pyro as well. I'm sure this isn't exactly what Valve had in mind when they designed the achievement system. Another problem with revamping one class at a time in a game like TF2 is that everyone plays the latest class to get changes when the update is first released. No doubt it will settle down over time, at least until the next class has their achievement system revisited.
