GeForce GTX 280 and 260 Benchmarks
Monday June 16, 2008
Although it was only a few months ago that Nvidia launched their GeForce 9 series, today they've outdone themselves again with the GeForce GTX 200 series. The 280 has 1 GB of memory onboard and performs almost as well as a GeForce 9800 GX2, which has 2 GPUs. The Tech Report has put the new cards through their paces and the results are impressive, representing a nearly 100 percent increase in high-end gaming card performance. They're very fast, but they're also very expensive. Right now the GTX 280 is priced at around $650, and the slower GTX 260 is going for about $400, so I'm not expecting a rush of early adopters.

Please go check some benchmarks…The 280 has 1 GB of memory onboard and performs almost as well as a GeForce 9800 GX2?? The GTX 260 performs better then the 9800GX2 in some cases. They each have their own strengths and the GTX 280 wipes the floor with that card. So please read before you type next time…

That’s the 280 “wiping the floor” with the GX2?
Note the conclusion, “More often than not, the GeForce 9800 GX2 is faster than the GTX 280…”
Maybe you should do some reading.

I just wanted to add that I fully expect the 280 and 260 to improve as newer drivers come out, and they’ve already dropped quite a bit in price.

internetames is right, the gtx280, being a single gpu card, is doing an impressive job of keeping up with and sometimes beating the GX2; in no ways, however, is it wiping the floor with it.
Now if the gtx280 was dual gpu, this might be the case. The thing is, it’s not. Now I’m just wondering how the gtx280 is going to fair against the 4870 x2. Links anyone? =D
Here are some benchmarks for the Radeon 4870 X2.

It does well against the 280 GTX although it varies from game to game. The 280’s performance in Crysis is quite amazing, and I believe recent price drops have made the 280 a little cheaper than the 4870 X2.
Right now it’s a really close race, but the 280 is the fastest single-GPU solution, and I doubt that dual-GPU cards are the future due to power consumption and heat. (Maybe dual-core GPUs?)
