WoW vs. LAN Parties

Sunday March 25, 2007
There's an interesting post over on Boot Daily about the ongoing decline of LAN parties and the negative effect World of Warcraft has on these events. In my circle LAN parties went away quite a while ago, mostly on account of broadband Internet and live chat software like Teamspeak. I miss those crazy LAN sessions, even though getting everything set up was often a hassle. Of course, games have changed a lot since 3 or 4 player deathmatches were something special. Most of today's multiplayer shooters are designed for dozens of players, so an Internet connection is mandatory anyway. Real-time strategy games are always fun when you're in the same room, but how do you get people to agree on which one to play when there are so many to choose from? (Thanks Blues News.)
