Console Launch Madness
Friday November 17, 2006
With the Sony PlayStation 3 making its North American debut today, and the Nintendo Wii arriving on Sunday, hysteria has been peaking for console fans this week. As expected, thousands of people lined up overnight to get the chance to buy a PS3, which are in very limited supply, so if you're not enjoying a game on one right now, you may be waiting for a few months. The word is that on eBay the $500-$600 machines are fetching over $2000. Of course, there were plenty of shenanigans going on, including people being hired to purchase the system for resale, fights, pellet gun shootings, and this guy smashing his new PS3 (YouTube) in front of the BestBuy line-up. I hope he got his money's worth, because the reaction from the people watching is remarkably subdued. No doubt the exitement will continue as Nintendo's next-gen console gets snatched from store shelves over the weekend.
