Battlefield 2 v1.4 Beta Patch

Wednesday July 5, 2006
Patching Battlefield 2 has turned out to be an unpredictable process for many fans. At least one patch has been rolled back, and some of them seem to break more than they fix. I guess DICE has decided to play it safe this time, as there is now a "beta" patch of version 1.4 available on the Battlefield 2 site. It's quite common for MMOGs to test updates this way, but it's unusual for a shooter. The word is that they have added a new map, a 'No Vehicles' server setting, and they've taken another shot at squashing the infamous red/blue nametag bug. The incremental beta patch is 138 MB and there are instructions on how to install it using copy of your client so that you can keep your current version of the game intact.
