Finding Love in the Game
Tuesday June 13, 2006
Although it may not fit the stereotype, gamers are not immune to love. There's bound to be some flirting going on when you have a few thousand people playing a MMORPG together. Of course, online dating has been around for years, but more and more often, people are meeting in video games. The Wall Street Journal talks to some couples that found each other while playing games like City of Heroes, EverQuest, and Anarchy Online. "Nick Yee, a Ph.D. student in the Department of Communication at Stanford University who studies online games, found in a survey earlier this year that 29% of women players and 8% of men said they had gone on to date someone they met in a game. He says the games are filled with scenarios that shed light on players' personalities." Those seem like pretty good odds for the ladies. I wonder how many women go on to date someone they met in a bar? Don't miss The Daedalus Project for additional information on Nick Yee's surveys.
