Ensemble on Console RTS, MMOG
Tuesday April 4, 2006
Next Generation had an opportunity to chat with Tony Goodman, the CEO of Ensemble Studios, where the Age of Empires series was developed. They talk about Microsoft's aquisition of the company, the success of Age of Empires despite its historical setting, adapting the RTS genre for play on consoles, and the possibility of a massively multiplayer game from Ensemble. Apparently they've got Age of Empires III working pretty good with a gamepad, which is an achievement in itself. On the subject of monthly fees, Goodman contends that World of Warcraft is charging too little, not too much. I guess raising the price would be one way to eliminate server queues.
