Ambient Gaming the Future?

Monday November 7, 2005
Pro-G has a story on Philips amBX, a new technology that proposes to take gamers to the next level of sensory immersion. amBX enabled games will be able to send commands to an assortment of devices including lights, fans, heaters, and special furniture. "This means that in a game the lights in your room will match up to the environment you are gaming in. E.g. Green for jungle and blue for the ocean. Strobes of white light could simulate a lightning storm and a burst of air from a fan could make huge jumps feel more realistic." Imagine a Flashbang grenade in Counter-Strike that blinds you for a few seconds in real life! Interesting idea, but it sounds like a lot of distractions I can live without when I'm trying to concentrate on a game. (Thanks Slashdot.)
