Virtual Mugger Arrested?

Thursday August 18, 2005
New Scientist is reporting that a man has been arrested in Japan for using a bot to kill and loot items from other characters in Lineage 2. A bot is a character that is automated to perform tasks within the game using scripts or other software. "Several players had their characters beaten and robbed of valuable virtual objects, which could have included the Earring of Wisdom or the Shield of Nightmare. The items were then fenced through a Japanese auction website, according to NCsoft, which makes Lineage II." Most MMORPGs prohibit the use of bots, and people are frequently banned for this offense - but arrested? I wonder exactly what he was charged with? (Thanks Slashdot.)
