Xbox Games in Windows?
Thursday June 30, 2005
There has been quite a bit of speculation lately about the possibility that Microsoft will integrate features into future versions of Windows that will allow it to run Xbox games. IGN has some comments on the subject gleaned from an interview with Bill Gates. "Giving every PC the ability to play Xbox titles immediately gives the Xbox a massive install base which segues nicely to other Microsoft gaming products." Another interview on GameDaily with Chris Donahue, group manager for Windows gaming and graphics, reveals more about Microsoft's plans for the Xbox 360, Longhorn, and their XNA development kit. "With XNA, which incorporates both DirectX and the Xbox/Xbox 360 Development Kits, we're making the tools to make it easier to make games for Microsoft's gaming platforms. We're looking to the game development community to surprise gamers with new ideas of what they can do with these tools—and of course, we're helping developers build games that can take advantage of the huge power of the next generation of hardware, both Xbox 360 and Longhorn." I'm not sure how feasible it is technically, but I think it would be a very smart move on Microsoft's part.
