Sony to Start Secure Auction for EQ 2 Items

Sony has decided to get into the business of auctioning online game items for real money; something they have discouraged their users from doing on sites like eBay in the past. Today they announced Station Exchange, which will be a secure online marketplace where EverQuest 2 players can buy and sell game coin, items, and characters using a credit card or PayPal. The goods will be delivered through the in-game email system. When the service launches in June it will only be available on new Exchange-enabled game servers, but there is talk of extending it to existing servers. I expected something like this to come along soon, but I certainly didn't expect it from Sony.
