Blizzard Bans WoW Casinos

By , About.com GuideFebruary 20, 2005

Follow me on:

In-game gambling for gold and items using the /random command was becoming a popular activity in major cities around Azeroth, until Blizzard decided to put a stop to the practice last week. Several reasons are given for the crackdown, including complaints from users, heaps of spam in the city chat channels, and dishonest transactions. The official policy is outlined in a post on the World of Warcraft Forums. I'm not much of a gambler, but I hope they revisit this policy sometime in future, because I think that some sort of in-game Las Vegas could be very cool.

@Solecalibur

This little post was made back in 2005 when, yes, Casinos existed and were banned. It is only recently they started to re-surface.

Casinos themselves were never the problem. Blizzard had banned this activity back in the early days of World of Warcraft as a result of activities which took place around these virtual casinos; mainly public chat channel spamming and scamming.

Blizzard is currently keeping a very close eye on things and will not hesitate to put their foot down once more.

Keep it fun, keep it honest and I see no reason why Blizzard would be inclined to ban this activity again.
